What to expect

Starting therapy can feel like a big step. We want you to feel prepared, not anxious. Here is exactly what the process looks like from your first message to your first session.

The process

Your first session, step by step

01

Submit a booking request

Fill out our short intake form. It takes about five minutes. You'll share a bit about what's bringing you to therapy, your availability, and your insurance or payment preference. No lengthy questionnaires, no pressure.

02

We reach out within one business day

Once we receive your request, we'll review it and reach out to confirm availability, verify your insurance benefits, and answer any questions before you commit to anything.

03

Complete your intake paperwork

Before your first session, we'll send a short set of intake forms through our secure client portal. These cover consent, privacy practices, and a brief history. Most clients complete them in under 15 minutes.

04

Join your first session

Your session takes place via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. No downloads required. You'll receive a link before your appointment. Find a private, comfortable space and we'll take it from there.

05

We build a plan together

The first session is a conversation, not an assessment. We'll talk about what's brought you here, what you're hoping for, and what working together might look like. There's no agenda you need to prepare.

Before your session

How to prepare

You don't need to do anything special before your first session. But if it helps to have a few things in mind:

Find a private space

A quiet room where you won't be overheard makes a real difference. Headphones can help if you're in a shared space.

Test your connection

A stable Wi-Fi connection and a device with a working camera and microphone is all you need. We recommend testing a few minutes before your session.

Give yourself a few minutes

Try not to schedule your first session right before a meeting or obligation. A little buffer time before and after helps you arrive settled and leave without rushing.

You don't need to have it all figured out

Many clients come to their first session unsure of exactly what they want to say. That's completely normal. You just need to show up. We'll figure out the rest together.

Common questions

"The first session is not about having the right words. It's about taking the first step. Everything else follows from there."
